2024 Tryout Process – What to expect
What to expect at tryouts
Northern Impact is always looking to improve the tryout experience for our members and some of the things we've tried haven't worked as well as we'd hoped. This year, we are making changes again, but they will be a little more visible than some of those in the past. Here's what you should expect:
- More courts and more coaches involved in the selection process. Our venues (Mounds View High School, Chippewa Middle School and Irondale High School all have four courts for us to use at tryouts.
- More coaches to evaluate and more coaches to execute evaluation drills should enable us to get through the process quicker and distribute the workload more effectively.
- Two Days of evaluations. We will tryout and offer club positions on Sundays, then host another session later in the week to evaluate further before announcing teams. This is the way larger clubs have done it for years, but we are now at a point where it is necessary here, too. This second session will be on Tuesday, 10/29 for 12-14 year-olds, and Thursday, 11/14 for those 15 and up.
- Team Genius will be used as the evaluation tool to provide objective scoring and facilitate the selection process. We have used this in the past, but chose not to do it last season and are returning to the platform in the hopes that the new facilities are more conducive to using it. It's not perfect, but it has made serious improvements and is the tool of choice for clubs like ours.
- Streamlined check-in with better integration between our registration platform (LeagueApps is new this year,) and Team Genius should reduce the wait times for checking in.
- More info to come... We are still working out details with evaluators and hope to share more info as time permits
