2025 Tryout Process – What to expect

What to expect at tryouts

Northern Impact is always looking to improve the tryout experience for our members and we continue to look for ways to improve the process and reduce the stress of this critical event.  This year, we are working hard to make sure that the process goes as smoothly as possible and yields the best results possible for everyone involved.  Here's what you should expect:

  • More courts and more coaches involved in the selection process.  Our venues (Mounds View High School and Edgewood Middle School each have four courts for us to use at tryouts.  This allows us to break up evaluations into more manageable groups and allows both players and evaluators to focus more easily with fewer distractions.
  • More coaches to evaluate and more coaches to execute evaluation drills should enable us to get through the process quicker and distribute the workload more effectively.
  • Accelerated Tryout - We will attempt to complete both player selection and team assignments in a single session.  We tried multi-day tryouts like larger clubs in the area, but we have noticed more challenges than benefits.  If at all possible, we will complete team assignments on the same day as tryouts.  If additional time is needed to create teams, we will do it by extending the time in the gym on tryout day rather than making players return for additional days.  This may create delays for parents, but the end result should reduce the overall stress and uncertainty experienced by our players and families.
  • Team Genius will be used as the evaluation tool to provide objective scoring and facilitate the selection process.  We have used this tool in the past and have had a positive experience with it.
